I feel like a broken record when I talk about Imagine Hope practicing what we preach- but it is true! There isn't a day that goes by that we aren't talking to clients about how to take care of themselves when experiencing stress. This week each of us at Imagine Hope will give you examples of self care that we do in our own lives. We hope it will inspire you to see how simple and necessary it is to take care of ourselves so we can be the healthy. Teri's Self Care Ideas
1. Being outdoors- I LOVE nature. It feels great to just sit, walk around, meditate and pray outside, or even drive with my windows down. I always feel good when I get to spend time outside during my day.
2. Some kind of exercise- I always enjoy a good run, but time doesn't always allow for that. At times I will take a walk with my family, or even stretch when watching tv. My mind and emotions are much more settled when I can release energy through exercise.
3. A talk with a good friend- One of my friends and I have a weekly "date" on the phone- and if we are lucky sometimes a coffee or meal. I always look forward to talking with her and catching up on our weeks. We are both busy working moms who have many things in common. Whether we are venting about a stressor, telling a cute story about our kids, or empathizing about a major change in life, my talks with her are important. A strong support system is a vital part of self care for me.
As you can see none of these ideas cost any money! Remember self care is imperative to being healthy- creativity is a must!
