Not Owning Your Part Might Sabotage Your Child's Therapy

We are talking about ways parents sabotage counseling this week. None of this is to point the finger at the parent. It's simply to help parents be aware of what they could be doing that might undo the benefits of therapy.

When Parents Don't Look At Their Part

A family is a system. Just like any system, it only works well when all the parts are good and working together. Many times we will see some things parents might be doing that aren't helping the child. It may even be holding back their progress. Unfortunately, change is hard so some parents only want to focus on the child and what they need to do to change. They don't want to look at the whole system (their family) to see how everyone needs to do their part and work on things. I understand as a parent this can be very intimidating and push on our shame buttons. However, it's important to look at ourselves and see our part and what we can do to change it. Just like in a marriage, see it as "our problem", not the child's problem. You will see amazing growth and progress from that.

Tomorrow Joleen will finish the blog with one more way to look out for. Thank you so much for reading today. Have a great day!
