One of the most inspiring books I have ever read and one I highly recommend is The Shack by William P. Young. This books takes all our hang ups and all our dysfunctional ideas of God and shows us a different and what I see as a healthy view of Him. I am not usually too into Christian fiction but this book is not only helpful but interesting and kept my attention. I literally could not put it down. Thru the story, the author is able to explain his view of God. It has been very helpful for my clients who, like I, have struggled with "religion" but long to have a relationship with God. It has also been helpful in answering the question we so often hear in counseling, "Why? Why would God let this happen to me?" I also like that his agenda for writing the book was simply to help his children understand God. He never envisioned it being a best seller. To me, that shows even more authenticity of the book. I would highly recommend this book for 2010. Natalie Chandler, MA, LMHC is a therapist at Imagine Hope Counseling Group.
