Infertility Part 1

1 in 8.  Did you know that 1 in 8 couples experience infertility at some point in their relationship?  Infertility can take many forms: for some it is multiple miscarriages and pregnancy losses, for others it’s the inability to conceive a child at all.  There is even a term called “secondary infertility” where a couple has given birth naturally to a child, and then can’t conceive again to grow their family.

Infertility is diagnosed after couples are unable to conceive and carry a child naturally after 1 year of trying.  This week at Imagine Hope we want to open your eyes to the world of infertility and to the struggle that 1 in 8 couples are facing.  There’s a very good chance that either yourself, friends, or family members may be struggling with infertility at this very moment.  We hope we are able to bring awareness to infertility and increase sensitivity to the pain that these couples are experiencing.

Infertility can create an abundance of issues for the couple.  Imagine trying month after month to become parents, only to fail over and over again.  Infertility robs marriages of hope and joy, and instead brings grief and sorrow.  This week we plan to discuss the impact infertility has on the couples’ mental health, their marriage, how it creates isolation, and impacts sex.  We hope you’ll check back daily to educate yourself.
