I LOVE Ah-ha moments! I love to have them, I love to see them in our clients! You can just tell something has clicked and that person will never be the same. My moment came when I was 15 years-old, if I remember correctly. I had always known my family struggled a lot. My parents weren't modeled great marriage techniques, therefore they struggled in their marriage, and my sisters and I all had more than just average teen issues. But for some reason, I always felt like something was wrong with me. When you grow up in your family, you don't know any different. So I thought our family was "normal" but there was something not ok with me. Until I read "Love is a Choice" by Hemfelt, Minirth, and Meier. Wow! All the sudden I realized it wasn't just me! It was our entire family system! And not just my immediate family, but generations of dysfunction that have been passed down FOR YEARS! I learned that I was Codependent (see our former blogs and articles for more info on this). I learned why I was this way and how to help myself. The long and the short of it is, this book and what I did with the information, literally turned my life around. It was a lot of information for a 15 year-old. Yes, I did still struggle tremendously with my issues stemming from Codependency for quite awhile. But I always came back to this core issue and have been working on it diligently since. I have read this book now 4-5 times! It seems it means something different to me at each stage of my life. I am so grateful for however this book was placed in my hands!
Thank you for reading. Joleen, what's your Ah-ha moment??
