As Christy mentioned yesterday, there are many issues a marriage faces throughout it's lifetime. Most, however, may not have imagined their marriage would feel the effects of ADD/ADHD... I mean, that's just for kids, right? Think again. Visionary & Creative, But...
Someone with ADD/ADHD will have wonderful creative ideas for projects or crafts. They'll have innovative ideas for businesses or be really great at marketing. BUT, sometimes follow-through can be an issue.
Have a room half-painted? Several projects started but half-finished? Get bored reading one book part-way through so another book is started?
There is a desire to create/learn/grow, but someone with ADD/ADHD struggles to implement the discipline it takes to see a project/job through from beginning to end.
Struggle with Organization
I once heard a doctor describe the brain process of someone with ADD/ADHD to be similar to a plate of spaghetti. All intertwined & overlapping. It would make sense, using this spaghetti analogy, why it's hard for those with ADD/ADHD to be organized!
Those with ADD/ADHD can get easily overwhelmed with trying to organize things....whether it be their daily schedule, the inside of their car, finances, etc. This also includes getting overwhelmed with details. Sometimes details get overlooked because they seem too daunting, or because those with ADD/ADHD can be forgetful, details aren't paid much attention to.
We're highlighting ADD/ADHD this week not to shame anyone, but to hopefully take some pressure off those in relationships with anyone undiagnosed or suffering from this. Again, as stated yesterday, none of the above behaviors is done on purpose or with malicious intent. It's truly a medical condition that if not treated, can cause a lot of confusion and chaos for those around them. Please contact your doctor if you, or if you believe your loved one is struggling with ADD/ADHD.
