Ways Pets Improve Mental Health Part 2

If you've ever owned a pet, you know the love and joy they offer in a human's life. But pet's provide so much more than this! This week we're very excited to tell you the many ways pets improve our lives:

Reduce Depression & Get Us Moving

According to the Centers For Disease Control, owning a pet brings multiple health benefits. Pets reduce blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, feelings of loneliness, depression and anxiety. If you're a pet owner, you know the joy your pet brings to you by their unconditional love and endless desire to spend time with you.

Pets also motivate us to take care of them....which if you own a dog, means lots of walks. Studies have found that dog owners who walk their dogs on a regular basis are less likely to be obese because they're more physically active.

Doctors are finding that patients are recovering faster physically and emotionally from surgeries when pets are introduced into the recovery process.

Not completely sold on this concept yet? Visit the Human Animal Bond Research Initiative which studies the connections between humans and animals. You'll learn so much!
