There's no perfect "recipe" for marriage, but the 10 tips we're offering this week will help keep communication lines open, positivity flowing and balance between the two of you as a couple. 3. Be Present. It's natural to be caught up in our own lives and the lists of things we need to accomplish. However, nothing is more frustrating than to try to have a connection with someone who is distracted. We have to make sure we set aside time for one another....on purpose! Put down the cell phone, shut off the TV and look each other in the eye. Then repeat.
4. Shame Free Zone. Marriage needs to be an emotionally safe place. An environment where both of you can share your feelings, ask for help and lean on one another. If one or both of you are shaming the other for actions/thoughts/feelings it will interfere in your ability to build closeness and intimacy.
