Are You Addicted to Technology? 3

This week we have been identifying possible markers of a technology addiction. Have you seen yourself in any of our indicators so far? Here are some more:

  • You may be an addict if the first thing you do in the morning is reach for your phone. Just like Tammy mentioned yesterday, FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) can make you curious about what wonderful things you missed out on while you were sleeping. Often technology makes us TOO accessible and makes it TOO easy to catch up on everything. When you first wake up in the morning, the last thing you need to do is immerse yourself in Facebook, the news, or your work email. This takes your attention away from quality time with your spouse and children and jolts you into the world immediately.

  • You may be an addict if people who are close to you complain about the amount of time you spend on ______________________ (laptop, IPAD, phone, internet, Facebook, etc). If the people you care the most about are complaining about your time spent on electronic devices, you may need to evaluate your priorities. If you’re not sure if this is an issue, do this simple test: document the time you spend on your phone, computer, etc. for one week-it will probably blow your mind!
