It's the end of my work week and it's been a challenging one to say the least. It can be easy to feel empty when we have been taking care of kids, our relationships, our marriages, and our careers all week. This blog was a great reminder to me of why self care is so important. Tammy had such great ideas. Here are things I intentionally do to take care of myself.
1. Spiritually- The most nurturing thing I do for myself is doing something spiritual first thing in the morning. I start with prayer, listen to calming music, and then read. This helps fill me up and is literally like food for my soul. When I don't make the space to do it I feel off all day....like I forgot to eat! I also like to end my night with prayer and soft music. This helps calm me down from a stressful day as I give up all my cares and worries to God.
2. Physically- Exercise is another form of "food" for my self care. I love to walk outside. I like it so much I lose track of time! I listen to music, podcasts, or most of the time I just enjoy the quiet. It helps me recharge as well as it giving me a great boost of serotonin to my brain!
3. Mentally- Girlfriend time- One thing I've done for almost 14 years now is have lunch with my best friend every week. I rarely let anything take place of this. It truly is taking care of myself. I can talk to someone who is interested in my life and I can't wait to here what's going on in her life. We are crying one minute and laughing the next. Food for my soul!
I am looking forward to Joleen's self care. I have a feeling one of hers will involve dirt and a shovel!!
