What Drives Your Life? Resentment & Anger?

This week we're discussing different driving forces for our lives. Rick Warren from his book, The Purpose Driven Life, has indicated there are 5 different things that can motivate us in our lives. As discussed yesterday, these things can be positive or negative. 2. Is Resentment & Anger Driving You?

Those of us who are driven by resentment and anger have a hard time letting go of past hurts. We may re-play past pain and hurts that others have caused us over and over in our memory.

Some of us may internalize resentment and anger - we may shut down and keep the pain inside. On the other hand, some of us may explode and take the pain and hurt we've experienced out on others. Either way, both of these reactions are unhealthy and dysfunctional.

The key is to forgive. Forgiveness allows us to release our pain instead of sitting in the pain and keeping the past as fresh as the present. Resentment does not hurt the person with whom we are upset! It only hurts us. The other person has most likely moved on and forgotten the offense.

Rick Warren points out in his book, "Those who have hurt you in the past cannot continue to hurt you now unless you hold on to the pain through resentment. For your own sake, learn from it, and then let it go."

Are you ready to let resentment & anger go?

Thank you for reading and please check back in tomorrow as we discuss being driven by Fear.
