My favorite Holiday tradition is looking at Christmas lights. From the time I was a little girl until now, my family has driven around on Christmas Eve, or Christmas night and looked at the Christmas lights in our small town. My parents would make driving around feel like such a special event - and it was. I would get so excited as we piled in the car as a family at dark and drove around. We would talk, listen to Christmas music in the car and sing along. We would share which houses were our favorites as we drove by.
It was great family time together, and I'll remember it forever. Best of all, it didn't cost hardly anything (gas for the car, that's all!). My dad would tease us that he'd spot Santa and the Reindeer in the sky, which of course, would get us all worked up and excited.
Although our family has changed by the loss of my father, and we can't all be together because of schedules, a few of us will get together and drive around, reminisce and look at the lights. It's still a tradition, and I still love every minute of it.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful, warm and Merry Christmas!
