People can easily fall into self-destructive addictions to cope with stress and emotional pain. Most people hear the word addiction and think of the typical addictions like alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex, or food. Have you ever considered non-traditional addictions? This week we will highlight several non-traditional addictions like: worry, spending, busyness, people pleasing, and anger to help you see that it is easy to get taken over by them.
Yes, all people worry once in a while, but do you ever feel like you are drowning in worry? Do you obsess over the "What if?"
People can be addicted to worry and obsession when their lives start to become paralyzed by their fear. They start to feel attacked by worry to a point they have trouble thinking clearly about what reality is.
When people are in emotional pain, it might feel like a relief to be distracted by another emotion- like worry and obsession. It could also feel like they are in control of their life and the pain through their worry and obsession. This is all a self-destructive illusion that can halt your ability to live a fulfilling life if it is not balanced in reality.
Keep your self away from the worry and obsession addiction path by processing through your struggles and not avoiding them. I know it can be overwhelming and scary, but living a life addicted to worry doesn't feel good either!
