What Memorial Day Means To Me- Christy

Memorial Day is a day of family time, cookouts, and often a day of rest from work.  But Memorial Day isn’t just another day on the calendar—it’s a day of honor and remembering those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.  This week at Imagine Hope we want to honor Memorial Day and share about what it means to us individually:

“There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” John 15:13

I grew up in a very patriotic family.  My dad, grandfather, uncle, and cousin all served their country in the military.  When I think about Memorial Day, I think about service and sacrifice.  To serve in the military is such a sacrifice of personal comforts, security, safety, and family.  The men and women in uniform who get up everyday just to protect you and me—they are worthy of our honor and thanks.

But those who have made the ultimate sacrifice deserve so much more.  Their memories and stories live on, but I believe the best way to honor them is to live our lives to the fullest.  Take advantage of every opportunity, live the American dream, and be grateful and thankful for our independence and safety.

Memorial Day reminds me not to take for granted the freedoms I have.  When I complain about my stresses or feel overworked I need to remember to put things in perspective.  I have a nice, cozy home, a running car, a great job, and loving friends and family.  I don’t have to worry about where my next meal is coming from or if I will be attacked just leaving my home.  This is all thanks to the men and women who have and will continue to protect us.

To those who are serving, have served, or have lost loved ones while serving….THANK YOU and GOD BLESS!
